St. Anthony of Padua Church will offer meditative organ music on Fridays during Lent, March 8 through April 12, at 1 p.m. Following the music, at 1:30 p.m., Resurrection students will lead Stations of the Cross.
On Good Friday, April 19, music begins at 11:30 a.m. and will switch from the organ to piano, guitar and vocals. Afterward, at noon, St. Anthony’s Youth Ministry will present “Stations of the Cross for Families,” a prayerful re-telling of Jesus Christ’s Passion.
Parish and area musicians will play music of the Lenten season for meditation and contemplation as follows.
March 8: Karl E. Moyer, organist at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Marietta, opens the program with the music of Camille Saint-Saëns, Johann Ludwig Krebs, J. S. Bach, Johannes Brahms and Anton Bruckner.
March 15: Terry Heisey, organist at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Lebanon, plays the organ. (No school this day, but stations will be led by a group other than the students.)
March 22: Eileen Laurence plays organ. Laurence is a published composer of multicultural handbell music, leader of the local bell choir Willow Bells and the bell choir at First Presbyterian Church. Laurence serves as a substitute organist and has concertized internationally.
March 29: Karen Eddinger, organist and Minister of Music at Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading, since 2011, will play the organ.
April 5: Robert Horton, organist and choirmaster at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church since 2014 will play the organ. He is an active international concert performer and has created popular concert series at Holy Trinity.
April 12: Murray Foreman, recently retired organist and Director of Music at Lancaster’s Grace Lutheran Church but still active there, will play the organ.
April 19 (Good Friday, 11:30 a.m.): Mark Erb is a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, and has been an organist there for 50 years. He is also organist for the traditional Latin Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lancaster. Erb, who studied organ under Lancaster’s renowned Frank A. McConnell, will play piano. Bob Grabowski will accompany on guitar and vocals. He has served many years as a musician at St. Anthony of Padua and has been Music Director there since 2016.
