Resurrection Catholic School students marked every day from Jan. 28 to Feb. 3 with a special activity to remind them it was Catholic Schools Week, a time to celebrate and a time to thank those who support them.
The highlight of the week was Tuesday when volunteers, benefactors, current and past parents, teachers and others came to a Share the Light Ceremony. Principal Brenda Weaver individually called upon a representative from each group forth to receive a candle and place it on a table among others. Eventually, all the candles together made a great light, the light that is Resurrection, she said.
The school’s theme this year, Family of Faith – Let Our Light Shine, was inspired by the tremendous amount of support from students, staff, families, parishes, and the community.
The highlight for students came Thursday with ice cream for everyone, a traditional treat from an anonymous donor. More treats were delivered to bus drivers, parish offices, and others who come in contact with the school daily. Students had a Global Play Day; they made cards for those who choose a religious vocation, and they competed in Diocesan Geography and Spelling bees. Nick T. won the Geography Bee and Maximus G. won the Spelling Bee.
Also during the week, the National Catholic Education Association and FACTS Management held “Many Gifts, One Nation: A Day of Giving to Catholic Schools.” Resurrection received with grateful appreciation $1,402 during the day of giving, Jan. 30.
